Biography

I’m Raquel and I’m Legal Partner for our Energy & Resources team.

Having been born and bred in the Surat Basin, you could say that I am a country girl at heart. Growing up, I spent a lot of time at my grandparents’ property near Dalby, where I was taught about life on the land and the importance of sustainable agriculture.

In recent years, I have worked closely with landholders affected by drought and have come to understand the importance of landholders having the opportunity to supplement their income. I have also witnessed first-hand how local communities have changed as a result of the resources boom.

My career experience in private practice, local government and the CSG industry has provided me with a wealth of legal and practical knowledge which enables me to achieve the best possible results for my clients when dealing with complex CSG, mining and renewable energy matters. I have an in-depth understanding of the complexities of the various resource sectors and am aware of the legal and practical issues affecting landholders when negotiating agreements. Coupled with my unparalleled negotiation skills, I utilise my extensive legal knowledge, industry experience and technical understanding to effectively influence and negotiate the best outcomes for my clients.

For more than a decade, I have represented landholders in the negotiation of hundreds of CSG, mining and resource and renewable energy agreements. Throughout negotiations, it is my priority to ensure that the best possible legal terms are negotiated, landholders are protected and the level of compensation paid by proponents is maximised.

I have an extensive knowledge of compensation principles and experience in attending mediations and alternative dispute resolution processes. With considerable experience in managing the resolution of disputes between landholders and companies, I strive to provide high quality legal advice to my clients and aim to ensure that each and every client feels supported throughout their journey.

I understand the importance of working alongside other professional advisors, in order to ensure that clients receive support and advice in all aspects of their matter. I empower my clients to make informed decisions in order to ensure that their land and legacy is protected.

Representing and seeking the best results for my clients is my passion. It’s important that landholders engage a lawyer who has extensive experience in dealing with energy and resource companies, as well as a lawyer who acts with empathy, honesty and integrity and prioritises client needs above anything else. I pride myself on being a lawyer who possesses those qualities.
